ABES

In 1985, a group of visionary ophthalmologists founded the American Board of Eye Surgery (ABES). The certifying arm of ACES. Their goal was to ensure a high level of skill by measuring individual physician’s surgical expertise. After many years of examining proficiency, the mission evolved into an educational and mentoring program Within this association, residents are cultivated and equipped to perform surgery with the exceptional qualities for which ABES exists. Though the original aspiration of ABES was to ensure quality surgery, this objective is further achieved through the organization’s transformation, with concentration on residents’ competence and tutelage and can certify there competency. ABES now exists to guarantee that these residents will have the opportunity to hone their skills and become the next generation of highly gifted ophthalmologists.

Dr. P Dee G Stephenson serves as the President of the American Board of Eye Surgery and is the past president of the American College of Eye Surgeons (ACES).
