The American College of Eye Surgeons (ACES) is pleased to announce the 2010 Bloomberg Video Competition for residents in cataract/implant surgery, sponsored by Alcon, Inc.
What to submit:
- Video of one complete, unedited cataract extraction performed by phacoemulsification. Cases without pre-existing complications only. No specialty IOLs will be accepted.
- Video must be in standard VHS or DVD format.
- Video must be performed entirely by the applicant.
- No identification of surgeon on the actual recording.
- No audio, music or voiceover.
How we pick the winners:
The surgical skills of each participating resident will be evaluated through the same specific points established by the American Board of Eye Surgery (ABES) to evaluate candidates for its sub-specialty certification program in cataract/implant surgery.Deadline:
Completed application and video must be received by the American College of Eye Surgeons no later than December 1, 2009.
Prizes:
The 1st place winner will win a trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico including airfare, hotel accommodations and conference registration.Cash prizes will be awarded for 1st place ($2500), 2nd place ($2,000) and 3rd place ($1,500). The winners will also receive complimentary registration for the ACES/SEE QS seminar.
The awards will be presented on Sunday, February 14th, 2010, at the ACES/SEE annual meeting. This annual meeting is part for the Quality Surgery XXIV Seminar to be held in conjunction with the Society for Excellence in Eyecare (SEE) at The Ritz-Carlton in San Juan, Puerto Rico, February 12-16, 2010.
An additional benefit of participation is that prospective employers will have access to a good example of the applicant’s surgical skill, provided permission is granted by the applicant.
Seminar registration:
In presenting this competition, the American College of Eye Surgeons hopes to encourage and promote the concept of quality surgery. With this in mind, the first ten residents nationwide to register for the QS XXIV Seminar may do so for the special registration fee of $200 (the regular registration fee is $895). ACES also offers complimentary memberships to physicians during their residency training.
