Doctor’s Choice Award: The Salvage of your Worst Surgical Disaster Video Competition and Interactive Video Roundtable of Unusual Cases

The American College of Eye Surgeons (ACES) is pleased to announce two opportunities for attendees of the SEE Island/QS XXII Seminar.

The fifth annual Doctor’s Choice Award – The Salvage of Your Worst Surgical Disaster Video Competition will again be co-chaired by Luther L. Fry, MD and Robert H. Osher, MD. ACES will accept video entries from any area of surgical ophthalmology. Possible challenges may include: posterior polar cataracts with pre-existent capsular defect, traumatic cases with areas of absent zonules, traumatic cases with pre-existent loss of iris, rock hard and hypermature cataracts, lens exchange for subluxation for dislocation of IOL, and lens exchange of opacification of IOL.

Participants may submit videos up to eight minutes in length, preferably edited and narrated, and recorded on standard (not extended) play. Acceptable formats include FHS, S-VHS, or DVD. Professionally produced videos are excluded. Entries will be reviewed and eight will be selected to be shown during Section II of the meeting on Saturday, February 11, 2008, 10:15 am – 12:00 noon. Seminar attendees will be given an opportunity to vote for the most challenging case, and an award will be presented to the winner.

The third annual Interactive Video Roundtable of Unusual Cases will also be co-chaired by Dr. Fry and Dr. Osher. This section is not a competition, but an opportunity for attendees to submit any type of unusual case for panel and audience discussion. The length, format, and deadline are the same as above.

For further information, please contact the ACES office at 727-366-1487.
